Weight Loss | Sleep Deprivation | Sleep for Weight Loss

Sleep deprivation is a major problem in the United States. Thirty-five percent of adults report difficulty sleeping at least once a week, and 11% report difficulty sleeping every day. This can lead to problems like weight loss. Lack of sleep has been linked with obesity and weight gain, as people who are sleep deprived tend to eat more and make poorer food choices. When you’re tired, your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol, which can cause you to crave unhealthy foods. Additionally, sleep deprivation reduces levels of leptin (a hormone that signals when you’re full) and increases levels of ghrelin (a hormone that stimulates hunger).

All of these factors can lead to weight gain over time.
